Kyle Kalish Triumphs on Home Soil at USPKS Mid-Summer Classic
Kyle Kalish was able to keep his momentum going and turn it into another race win at the United States Pro Kart Series Mid-Summer Classic at the
Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman, Wisconsin. Aboard his Franklin Motorsports powered IAME Parilla Leopard Merlin Chassis; Kyle was able to
comeback from a poor start to win his first USPKS race of the season.
Kyle would end the Friday Happy Hour session 2nd place, just .003 seconds off Tommy Anderson’s fast time. Saturday’s qualifying would place him third for Saturday’s two heats. With a good start in the first heat, he was able to move into 2nd place, but was unable to challenge for the heat win. Kyle was once again able to finish 2nd in a hard fought heat race to set himself up for an outside pole starting position for the day’s final. At the start of the race, he was able to jump into the lead coming out of the first turn. Within a few turns, contact was made that put him back into the 6th position. On the move, he continued to work his way through the field and on lap 14 he would made the pass for the lead. He ran away to get a 2.2 second win in the 30-lap feature event, securing his first USPKS win of the season, his second National TAG win.
Day two qualifying would see Kyle put down a blistering lap of 36.6 to capture the pole. With a temperature change between qualifying and the heats, Kyle struggled to maintain his pace and was only able to secure a 3rd and a 4th place finish in his two heats. Starting the 30-lap feature event in the 3rd position, Kyle was looking to have a solid start until a driver cut the track, impeding his momentum and holding him up. By the time Kyle got into third place, the leaders were already out to a large lead, and it looked to be a struggle to catch up to them. Kyle was slowly gain on the leaders when one of leaders dropped out, moving him into 2nd. Gaining slowing on the leader Mark Dismore Jr, Kyle would come up 9 tenths short at the finish.
“I’m very pleased with how the weekend went! Last time there was a national event in Dousman in 2008, we were able to secure my first career national win, and we were hoping to repeat that. We pushed and gave our all and our efforts definitely paid off,” Says Kalish, “I was really happy to get the win on home soil, and to follow it up with a runner up finish on Sunday felt pretty great. It was an amazing feeling to get to stand on the podium with my mentor Jamie Sieracki on Sunday, and I’m proud to be a part of his team. I would like to especially thank my dad for all his hard work this weekend. He put out his best and more to make sure I had the best kart I could possibly have. I would also like to thank Jamie and George Sieracki at Franklin Motorsports for the amazing karts and engines, Merlin Racing Karts, GO Designs, Minus273.biz, and Racelite Protection for all their amazing support, and we will look to continue our success at the final round of the United States Pro Kart Series!”
